  • 1. Powerscourt

Spread over two floors of the main house (see Powerscourt Estate) are numerous different outlets. Avoca is the main retailer but there are plenty of others including Waterford Crystal and Powerscourt Own Brand. The garden centre is also excellent.

  • 2. Fishers of Newtown Mount Kennedy

An unlikely place to find tucked away here, selling up-market women’s fashions and traditional men’s country clothes.

  • 3. Malahide

An extremely attractive village with its streets arranged in a cross-grid pattern. There is a variety of shops to visit including an excellent wine shop, designer boutiques and a well-stocked hardware store.

  • 4. Dalkey

Another pretty seaside village, and the home of many international stars. There is a couple of excellent galleries and designer boutiques selling pure linen clothes and original silk knitwear.

  • 5. Avoca Handweavers

This is one of the main outlets of Avoca, stocking a wide range of their own label clothes, gifts and foods. The self-serve restaurant sells huge helpings of Mediterranean food.

  • 6. Mount Usher Gardens

This arcade of shops includes French label casual wear, equestrian clothes and equipment, a second-hand bookshop, art gallery and a pottery.

  • 7. Enniskerry

Yet another pretty Wicklow village with a smattering of designer shops: up-market gifts for the home in Enniskerry Trading Company, and great wine and cheese in Murtagh’s Fine Foods and Wines.

  • 8. McGuirks

On the harbour in the centre of Howth, this amazing shop sells excellent golfing gear at very keen prices as well as high-quality clothing that need not be confined to the golf course.

  • 9. Far Pavillion

The shop for a special gift. Pretty china, napkins and smelly things, as well as books, covered matchboxes and expensive salad bowls.

  • 10. Wrights of Howth

Right on the pier, Wrights has a great selection of fresh fish – try the wild smoked salmon or gravadlax.
